Bring in the patriotic fervour in kids

Today, when I saw the newspapers, I realised all I could see is "Republic day sale" supplements..will this what are kids grow upto...as the great sale day? The republic day news is very small.
Its upto us only to inculcate the sense of patriotism in them... right from now...

Today, Republic Day is celebrated with much enthusiasm all over the country, especially in the capital, New Delhi, where the celebrations start with the President’s speech to the nation. After this, he hoists the tri-coloured Indian flag and whole nation stands up to sing the National Anthem. To mark the importance of this occasion, every year a grand parade is held, which includes a march past and drills by the armed forces. This is followed by a pageant of spectacular displays from different states.
Medals of bravery are awarded to the people from the armed forces for their exceptional courage in the field and also to civilians, who have distinguished themselves by their different acts of valour. Children too who have shown bravery in a particular area are awarded by the President.

Listening to these bravery stories, would be something we would look upto when we were kids.
The State parades were the greatest attraction. The "Shehanai Vaadan" by Padnit Bismillah Khan, can give you those goosepimples...

Listening to patriotic songs right from when they are small, is something that they recognise, even when they become older. These songs have the magic of generating patriotic feelings. My lil one particularly likes, "nanha munha rahi hoon", "hind desh ke nivasi", "hum honge kamayab".
Learning and singing our national anthem is something they can always do..

Some of our recommended patriotic songs for kids..
Listen to them with your kids

See the national parade and talk about bravery awards...

Dressing up specially in orange or white or green, will add on to the spirit.

 Maa tuzhe Salaam!

Jai Hind!

Independence Day Celebrations

Joy of Giving

As part of our Independence Day initiative, we request you to donate your used books & Toys, which your kids have outgrown, to underprivileged children. These will be distributed by ‘Akshar Bharati’.

About Akshar Bharati:
'Akshar Bharati' is an initiative to nurture the reading habits in children between age group 5-15 years from underprivileged and remote areas by facilitating access to good non-academic literature. We set up libraries for such children in their localities so that the books are available when they need them the most. We strongly believe that quality reading develops the wisdom to make appropriate choices as one grows which ultimately enhances the quality of life by becoming better citizens. This is our way of contributing to the India’s Vision 2020 of being a developed and self-sufficient nation.
Akshar Bharati provides an easy way for everyone to get involved in this Social cause.

Independance/Republic Day activities with paper n clay

For those whose love to be creative with paper and clay…here are some wonderful ideas…
Freedom Bracelet
All you need:
Orange, green and white paper
transparent tape
glue
scissors

Instructions:
1. Cut strips of paper that are about 2 inches wide (the lesser the width, the thinner will be the bracelet) and 12 inches long.
Cut 5 orange strips, 5 green strips and 10 white strips.
2. Lightly glue a white strip to the back of each of the orange and green strips.
3. Now tape all the orange strips together end to end. So you have one LONG orange strip.
Repeat the process for the green strips.
4. Place the strips like an L and then fold over each other in an alternating pattern (See picture). Solid colours are the front and slashed colours the white back of the paper. When you run out of paper, trim ends as necessary and tape so it doesn't unravel.

5.Roll into a circle and tape to form a bracelet.

What does the central ‘chakra’ in our flag stand for?
§  The wheel at the centre is called the 'Dharma Chakra'
§  the 24 spokes in the wheel stand for 24 hours in a day
§  the blue of the spokes represent Ocean and Sky

Independance/Republic Day- lil something for everyone

DID YOU KNOW?
The game of snakes & ladders was created by the 13th century poet saint Gyandev. It was originally called 'Mokshapat.' The ladders in the game represented virtues and the snakes indicated vices. The game was played with cowrie shells and dices.

Chess (Shataranja or AshtaPada) was invented in India. When many cultures were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindh Valley, known as the Indus Valley Civilization.
